BKF Update

My Blue Kaleidoscope Flower quilt top is growing from a bouquet into a field!

It looking so good. And it's not even fully together yet! Do you like this look?

The four blocks along the edges are ready to be sewn and the four corner blocks still need to be completed. They are only pieced up to number three out of eleven.

I love how the edges of the pieces can be all jagged and over-shaped but in the end, the block looks amazing!

A few more crazy scrap blocks were made and squared up yesterday. They will be nice additions to my pile! It's so cool to make two things at a time.

I sat down with my box of thread and the handy-dandy Singer Side Winder yesterday and filled up a whole bunch of bobbins.

Now it feels like I'm ready for anything!

It was a long arm action night! The fabulous log cabin quilt is getting done!

So, last time, I mentioned that I was going to think about how I would quilt this one.

Crazy Strip Blocks

I've been talking about making useable blocks out of scrap pieces that would typically go with the trash.

Take a look in your throw-out bag and pull out the strips that have sewable surface areas.

Piecing BK Flowers

Taking on a project casually is so rewarding. You can do a little today, a lot tomorrow, and maybe nothing for a week or two, but you still get the joy of the process.

Here's where I am with my BK (blue kaleidoscope) Flowers quilt.

The Scrap Pile

I did some paper piecing tonite. The blue flowers are growing in number!
Paper piecing can make a lot of scraps and waste a lot of thread. What can you do with those scraps that pile up but are too big to throw out? Make scrap blocks!

In between each paper piece line, pull the pattern ahead just enough so you can slip a couple of scraps under the needle. Then sew the scrap pieces together. This will save thread and give you more results when you turn off the machine for the night! And it's fun to dig through the scraps to see what can be saved from the trash!

As you trim up the edges of your paper pieced lines, set your scraps together according to length and shape. I had short, medium, long, and triangular piles. Then you can start grabbing them to make scrappy "crazy" blocks.

And the results are...

Good ones!

My Hawaiian quilted wall hanging was not a winner. That was a last minute decision to submit and I only did it because I think it's pretty. :)

A Day Out - Shaker Village

It's been a hot summer. Pretty much too hot to be outside for very long with the humidity the way it's been since mid June. Today was different. It was cooler. It was overcast. And it wasn't raining! A good day to get out.

What to do..... hmmmm. How about the Shaker Village Craft Show? YES! Have you been to any of their craft shows? Or to their property in Colonie?

Saratoga County Fair -Entry Submission Day

It's here! The day to make the trek up to the Saratoga County Fair and hand in my entries for judging.

I boxed them all up and headed up to Ballston Spa.

Second One Down

The talented Cathy Kilby is a master Card Trick quilt maker! Here's one that she made with breast cancer awareness fabrics and it needed to be quilted. Loopy Lines is the pattern of choice along with clean, white thread.
Here we go! It's getting quilted on the long arm!
